What is Financial Therapy?
Financial therapy merges the knowledge about finances with emotional support to help people cope with financial stress and correct unhealthy behaviors with money.
I have been both a psychotherapist and a Money Manager for many years. I have been responsible for the finances of multi-million-dollar businesses and for wealthy individuals and have given workshops in cities across the United States on “The Psychology of Money”.
There are many reasons why a person might need financial therapy. Often unconscious belief systems and behavioral issues cause a person to act in financially unhealthy ways. These can result in overspending, gambling, compulsive shopping, hoarding money, avoiding and perpetuating debt, or hiding finances from a partner. Poor spending and saving habits are symptoms of emotional or mental issues that need addressing, along with the financial issues.
